ROUNDWOOD SCHOOL

In 1932 an application was made to establish a school at Pallinup Siding by George Moore of "Mooreen Farm", saying that there were 17 children of suitable age. It suggested site Kojonup Location 1123, and accommodation for the teacher at Mrs. W, Herbert's Snr at 25/- ($2.50) per week.

By 1933 the number of suitable children had increased to twenty-three:

2    R. Bluntish
3    E. G. Paisley
1    A. Simpson
2    R. Burridge
4    N. Ball
 

 

School sites suggested were Pallinup Siding, Toolbrunup Siding but finally settled on Roundwood. Classes for Roundwood School was first held in June 1936 at the home of D. J. Wray. In August Inspector M. Little recommended of a proper school and arranged for the Kwilalup School building to be transported to Roundwood at a cost of 140 pounds ($280). In 1937 five acres were allocated, the building was finished by the 25th September. Furniture and stock for the school was stored by L. W. Paisley.

School closed 15th December 1944 due to low attendance. Furniture and stock sent to Perth.

 

In April 1949 the school building was sold to the Gnowangerup United Aboriginal Mission.
